Welcome to my Sahara Desert Challenge for Shelter fundraising page!

Violence against women and children is a serious problem in all communities across Canada. While significant efforts have been made throughout the years, much work remains to be done to help prevent and support those who experience abuse. I am proud to be fundraising for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. A foundation that raises money for women and children escaping domestic violence and rebuilding their lives.

Did you know.... on any given night in Canada close to 6,000 women and children stay in an emergency shelter because it’s not safe for them to be at home. At the same time, 300 are turned away each night because all the shelters are full.  When a woman leaves these kinds of situations....most times they leave with nothing except the clothes on their back.  They are then left with the immense task of having to rebuild a life for themselves and their children.  This is where you and I come in....this is an oppourtunity for us to help !!

In November 2019, I will be going outside my comfort zone and trekking 100 km across The Sahara Desert in Morocco in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.  For 5 straight days, my colleagues from Royal LePage offices across Canada and I will be hiking up to 7 hours a day across difficult terrain in this hot and dry desert climate, with temperatures dropping considerably at night. We will be sleeping in large group tents, using camping-style bathroom facilities, and going without electricity, cell service and the other comforts of home. This journey will not be easy and will test me both mentally and physically. I will be training for months to prepare for this Trek.

I have given myself the goal to raise $12,500 for the foundation! It will not be possible without your help!

80% of the monies I am raising will be donated to Violence Prevention South and Central (reaching communities from Lewisporte to Springdale and everywhere in between) and 20% will be used to fund educational programs such as Violence Prevention and Teen Healthy Relationship grants.

Please note----I will be covering travel and trek costs out of my own pocket.

You and I have the chance to help women and children in our community by ensuring they have a safe place and support services available to them when they need it. They deserve our help and our encouragement that a brighter future is possible. I also recognize that educating our youth about building healthy relationships is the key to breaking the cycle of family violence in Canada. Please join me in making a difference.
