Hi I'm Lynn and Welcome to my Ecuador Challenge for Shelter fundraising page!
In 2021 I participated in the Purcell Mountain Challenge Trek. I was honestly unprepared for the challenges in several ways. I trained on flat ground - not for steep inclines and I had to really push myself when I was faced with uncertainties. I awoke each day not knowing a route or my environment and conditions. I went from hot sun, to smoke from forest fires to snow and sleet. All while camping nightly and with no facilities. Despite the daily challenges, I completed the full trek, one day at a time, one step at a time. I kept thinking about all the women in Canada, that are in abusive situations, that wake up everyday unsure of how each day will challenge them.
This is why I Trek.
Women’s shelters in Canada need our support now more than ever to fund their life-saving and life-changing work. As we emerge from the COVID pandemic, shelters across the country are reporting rising rates of domestic violence and more women than ever who are reaching out for help. While most of our lives have returned to normal, there are women and children in all corners of the country who are now fleeing the danger within their homes and working to rebuild their future after experiencing domestic violence.
I plan to help and I hope you will join me in making a difference!
In November 2023, I will be heading to Ecuador to trek 5 days towards one of the highest active volcanoes in the world! During this high-altitude adventure, I will be hiking long days across varied terrain in unpredictable mountain weather. I’ll be camping in a tent and going without cell service, electricity, bathroom facilities and other comforts of home. This trek will not be easy but it will be immensely worthwhile. Each step I take and every dollar I raise will support courageous women and children in my community who are seeking safety and hope for a life free from abuse.
